There are four main locations within the city of Stoke-on-Trent suitable for students to live in: Shelton, Hanley, Penkhull and Boothen.
These locations are close to Staffordshire University and other amenities such as the library, Stoke train station, parks and attractions. The main library is on the doorstep of the Stoke train station which has great connections to Birmingham, London and Manchester. There are also attractions such as the Emma Bridgewater Factory, Alton Towers (10 miles from Stoke-on-Trent) and Waterworld (Festival park, near Hanley) which can be fun way for students to enjoy their free time.
Shelton is opposite Staffordshire University and close to the Stoke train station. The nearest parks are Hanley park and Cauldon park which are accessible via College Road, Avenue Road, Ridgway Road and The Parkway.
Hanley had a new bus station built in 2017. One service is the National Express coach service which connects Hanley with London,?Birmingham, Liverpool and?Manchester. Within Hanley itself there are many pubs, clubs and restaurants. The new complex next to the Pottery shopping centre is home to some restaurants popular with students such as Nandos and Chiquetoes. Here you will find something for everyone. The proximity to Staffordshire University makes it appealing to those students who not only wish to be close but to also have many facilities around them.
Penkhull is an artistic village with a community feel, its proximity to the Royal Stoke University hospital makes it a good location for those students who spend a lot of their time at the hospital. Penkhull also hosts many events throughout the year such as The Penkhull Mysteries,?Penkhull Jazz and Blues Festival,?Penkhull Folk Week, Penkhull Panto and?Penkhull?Music Festival?. You also have St Peter’s Academy Sports Centre which offers activities such as basketball, table tennis club, taekwondo.
There is a bus service which will take you from Penkhull to Staffordshire University. This is the yellow number 9 and it takes under 20 minutes to get there. The same bus will get you from Penkhull to the Royal Stoke University hospital in under 10 minutes.
Boothen is a village close to Staffordhire University and Stoke hospital. There is a regular bus service, which include numbers 21, 23 or 25. These can get you from Boothen to the University within 19 minutes. Boothen is home to a Dunelm warehouse where seasonal jobs are always on offer, ideal for students.
